From a distance, the simple trapezoid ladder shaped Hancock building with two thick round antennas on top looks like a giant holding the sky with his two hands. It stands firmly at the juncture between earth and sky. This initial impression of the design was firmly implanted in my mind and inspired the Our City sculpture. I used the profile of the John Hancock building and put three standing figures into its’ shape. As I worked, the concept of this piece became more and more clear. A man supporting his family, a woman raising their child, and a child as their hope.
