The Calculation sculpture’s lovely facial expressions of young children, like my son, were the inspiration for the 36 symbolized heads. My sculptures began to take on a new style. Figures became more symbolic in form, becoming components of the whole installation. I put these simple symbolized figurative forms into each piece and let them tell the different stories. Some of the stories were Chinese-American stories.
